Cleanup your local beach, river or park
Picking up a plastic bag, empty drink bottle or plastic straw from the ground when you are out and about means one less piece of litter in the environment. As well as our informal efforts, organised cleanups are a good way to raise awareness of litter (mostly single-use plastic). But if "all we do is clean-up, that is all we will ever do" (Tangaroa Blue). By gathering information about the type of litter in the environment we can start to look at ways to reduce it.
It doesn't just have to be a beach cleanup - why not cleanup your school playground, local park or riverside. There are a number of organisations focusing on litter cleanups that have tools and smartphone apps to help you share your efforts, organise cleanups and record information.
