Get your Council involved
Step 1: Promote
Step 2: Participate
There are loads of ways your Council can participate in Plastic Free July. Some big, some little!! Here are some of our ideas - but feel free to get creative. Check out our "Business" page for ideas on what you can do for staff at the Council. Below are some of our ideas to help you get your community involved in Plastic Free July.
Host a movie screening
There are heaps of amazing movies and documentaries out there on the issue of plastic waste. We've included links to some of our favourites in the Toolbox. Invite community members along and consider getting a guest speaker on the issue. Make sure everyone brings along their own reusable containers and food isn't covered in cling film!
Nude food lunch - or Plastic Free Morning Tea
Organise a "nude food" event or a plastic free morning tea. Encourage residents to bring their food using no single-use plastic. Direct them to our Toolbox for plastic free cooking ideas and recipes. We've also got an A-Z of Alternatives.
Run a nude food workshop
Do any of your staff have waste free cooking skills they could share with the community? Perhaps you have active volunteers or community members that would love to share plastic free recipes. We have loads of plastic free recipes in our Toolbox to inspire. And doing this in conjunction with a local community garden could work well too!
Hook up with local craft groups
Most councils have a huge amount of craft groups. Join forces with them to make produce bags and encourage family and friends to come along too! Find patterns and ideas in our Toolbox.
Conduct a street bin audit
See just how much single-use plastic your community is using. You could do a bin audit on a public thoroughfare. Empty one of the street bins and get sorting. There is no doubt passers by will come to take a closer look. Visit our Toolbox for bin audit tips and templates.
Organise a Two Hands Project clean up
Organise a Two Hands clean up of your community. Check out our Toolbox for how it works.

Step 3: Promote
Step 4: Celebrate
Make sure you celebrate your community's efforts!!!! Host an event and encourage colleagues to bring along their dilemma bags and share their stories.
Step 5: Share
We'd love you to share your great ideas, success and stories with us
